On July 1, the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce New York unveiled its office at 6 E. 39th St. in Manhattan’s Midtown East. To accommodate growing demands for the chamber, staff members have been added.“I hope that this change is the genesis of great growth,” said Derrick Brown, NGLCCNY executive director.
“I would like this [office space] to lead to an increase in our educational programs with corporate partners, as
well as more hospitality- and tourismbased membership.” NGLCCNY is one of the largest affiliate chapters of the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. It provides business development opportunities, financial access and educational resources to LGBT and allied businesses in the NYC metro area, in addition to promoting supplier diversity within its growing network of corporate partners.
“NGLCCNY is unique because we work closely with the national team to connect local LGBT certified suppliers with our corporate partners on a national level,” Brown said. The new office, provided by Insignia National Title Agency and furnished by Poppin, is positioned to help better serve the more than 200 active members of the chamber, a number that is continuously growing.
“The new space is not just for storing things and to have a place for meetings,” Brown said. “It’s really all about
synergy and having a common space to help improve the overall membership experience.” Since its inception in 2008 with only an executive committee and small staff presence, NGLCCNY continues to connect business owners with other entrepreneurs and corporate partners. The addition of official office space and staff is a welcome change for Brown. Each month, NGLCCNY hosts monthly mixers for its members to connect, along with a New York stock exchange awards event. In addition, a yearly national conference is held in conjunction with the national chamber. With a growing membership base, Brown hopes NGLCCNY will be able to soon provide an even more accessible platform for certified suppliers and corporate partners to connect. NGLCCNY’s first-ever Manhattan location will allow the group to expand services and
increase membership.
